Georges Elhedery takes on new role at HSBC 29 January 2019London Reporter: Maddie Saghir

Georges Elhedery has been appointed as head of global markets at HSBC, effective 15 March and subject to regulatory approval, a spokesperson confirmed.
Elhedery will assume responsibility for global markets from Thierry Roland, who, in addition to his job as head of global banking and markets, Europe, has been acting as interim head since September.
For the new role, Elhedery will relocate to London from Dubai, where he is currently HSBC group鈥檚 chief executive of the Middle East, North Africa, and Turkey (MENAT) region.
Additionally, in Dubai, he is currently deputy chairman of HSBC Bank Middle East.
Elhedery joined HSBC in 2005 and has held a number of key roles in global banking and markets, including head of global banking and markets, head of global markets, and head of markets and capital financing, all for the MENA region, based in Dubai.
Prior to this, he served as global head of structured rates in London. Elhedery became group general manager in 2016 and will continue to sit on the GBM executive committee.
Before HSBC, Elhedery worked in Tokyo with BNP Paribas and in London with Goldman Sachs.
Meanwhile, a permanent successor for Elhedery鈥檚 role in MENAT will be announced in due course following a formal recruitment process.
