The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) has appointed Erik Thed茅en as its vice chair, for a two and a half year term, effective immediately.
Thed茅en is the director general of the Swedish Finansinspektionen (FI), the authority supervising the banking, insurance and securities sectors in Sweden.
Thed茅en will replace Anneli Tuominen, who has completed her two and a half year term in the role. Tuominen is director-general of the Finnish Finanssivalvonta, the financial regulatory authority of the Finnish government.
Thed茅en has served in this role at the FI since 2015. He is also a voting member in the European Systemic Risk Board, and the chair of the task force on sustainable finance for the International Organisation of Securities Commissions.
Commenting on Thed茅en鈥檚 appointment, Ross says: 鈥淚 am happy to announce the appointment of Erik Thed茅en as vice chair of ESMA. As a board member since January 2018, he has demonstrated his commitment to ESMA through his active participation in our supervisory work. He brings a wealth of national and international experience to the role, and I look forward to working with him.
She adds: 鈥淚 want to take the opportunity to thank Anneli Tuominen for her work over the years, and particularly for the key role she played as interim chair this year.鈥
