The California Public Employees Retirement System (CaIPERS) has hired Cheryl Eason as its CFO.

In the newly created role, Eason will oversee the financial and risk management operations of the firm鈥檚 $243 billion pension fund.

Prior to this appointment, Eason was vice president of the financial and plan board services for the British Columbia Pension Corporation.

CaIPERS CEO, Anne Stausboll, said: 鈥淥ur CFO will be the single point of coordination for financial and risk-related activities across our organisation, and Cheryl is the perfect choice to lead this important task.鈥

鈥淗er background as a senior executive with extensive experience leading business planning, risk management and budgeting operations will ensure that CalPERS maintains a high level of transparency and internal controls in its financial operations,鈥 added Stausboll.

Commenting on her appointment, Eason said: 鈥淚鈥檓 excited to join CalPERS and look forward to ensuring that the future of the organisation continues on a solid financial foundation.鈥
