The International Swaps and Derivatives Association (ISDA) has hired Scott O鈥橫alia as CEO and director of the association, effective 18 August.

He joins from the Commodity of Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) where he held the title of commissioner.

O鈥橫alia succeeds ISDA鈥檚 former CEO, Robert Pickel. He announced his retirement in April.

Following the appointment of O鈥橫alia, Pickel said: 鈥淥鈥橫alia will be a tremendous asset to ISDA in the years ahead.鈥

Prior to his work at the CFTC, O鈥橫alia worked on the rules and standards for corporate risk management at GenOn Energy Holdings, formerly Mirant Corp.

Stephen O鈥機onnor, chairman of ISDA, said: 鈥淭he board is excited and confident that O鈥橫alia is the right person to lead the industry and ISDA through the many structural changes.鈥

O鈥橫alia added: 鈥淚 look forward to working with ISDA鈥檚 board, staff, members and external constituencies to address the challenges and opportunities ahead.鈥
