McVey retires as executive chairman of MarketAxess

Founder of MarketAxess, Rick McVey, will retire from his position as executive chairman, effective 1 January 2025.
He will be succeeded by Carlos Hernandez, however will continue to serve as the chairman of the board of directors of MarketAxess Limited, the firm鈥檚 international holding company.
The announcement comes a year and a half after McVey stepped down from his position as CEO of the company, after 23 years in the role.
Chris Concannon, current CEO of MarketAxess, comments: 鈥淩ick鈥檚 bold vision for the company nearly 25 years ago not only revolutionised trading forever, but also created an outstanding organisation in the process. I鈥檇 like to congratulate Rick on an incredible accomplishment.鈥�
McVey adds: 鈥淭he last quarter century has been an incredible journey, and it was an honour to lead this organisation from a startup to a position of global leadership. I look forward to my continued involvement on the board of MarketAxess Limited as we continue to expand our reach in international financial markets."
Hernandez rejoined MarketAxess in 2023, prior to which he acted as executive chair of investment and corporate banking at JPMorgan. He comments on his appointment: 鈥淚 look forward to working closely with Chris Concannon during this next phase of MarketAxess as we find new ways to make one of the world鈥檚 leading fixed income marketplaces even better.鈥�
